Outreach

We are actively engaged with STEM events to encourage more students to pursue a career in the chemical sciences.

We worked with the Education team at the Royal Academy of Engineering to develop a resource box that was distributed to 900 schools across the UK. This box focussed on materials for sustainability. A video of the activities in the resource box can be found here. His group shared these activities at St. John's College's Inspire Scholars event.

Prof. Hoye also appeared as a guest judge in the final of Shell's The Bright Ideas Challenge. 

We have promoted materials chemistry through public lectures at schools and Science Festivals. Recent activities:

• Talk at the 2023 London International Youth Science Forum, held at Imperial College London
• Talk on next-generation materials for sustainability at Imperial's open day
• Talk at Eton College on the impact of materials chemistry in society
• Demonstration of the science of ice cream, introducing the ideas of nucleation and growth
• Workshop on 3D printing of chocolate

Our work on nontoxic, next-generation solar cells has gained wide interest. We have given interviews to CBS, BBC, The Verge, Materials World, Materials Today and many other outlets on the potential impact and future opportunities. The Deutsches-Hygiene Museum (Dresden, Germany) also featured our devices in their recent exhibit on the interactions between humans and the sun.
